PowerCon was founded on supplying the wind turbine industry with power conversion solutions. Although other business areas have been added since, the wind segment continues to be the origin and core for PowerCon’s capabilities. Founded by partners with +40 years of industry experience combined, PowerCon knows the industry well and what it requires when it comes to power conversion systems as well as development of new prototypes and solutions. For the wind turbine industry, our solutions can largely be divided into two categories:

Active front end converters: Low voltage converter for parallel connection designed for applications with high current and low voltage.

Modular multi-level converters: Medium voltage converter for series connection designed for applications with low current and high voltage.

Our long experience has given PowerCon the foundation for rapid, competitive, and reliable designs. We can offer customers a turn-key delivery according to specific requirements and time schedules or more supporting services in assisting customers with integrating a project that is already developed.

A wide variety of product areas have benefitted from PowerCon’s competences within this field, for example upgrading electrical drive trains in existing wind turbines to improve their performance level. Other examples include generator test equipment, production test benches, as well as complete 100-200kW converters and converter controllers. Finally, PowerCon also offers field test equipment, replacing converter controllers to enable SCADA control of existing turbines, and upgrading turbines to supply reactive power. No matter the specific application, higher efficiency is always in focus as it means improved business for our customers. Whether minimizing losses, or improving performance levels, PowerCon knows that a little goes a long way within the wind power industry.
